Singapore, December 3rd, 2006 – Mainboard-listed
Stamford Tyres Corporation Limited (“Stamford Tyres”
or the “Group”), a global tyre and light alloy wheel
specialist, today announced that the Group will be the first
to distribute Continental’s new ContiSportContact 3 tyre
in Asia Pacific, in partnership with German tyre manufacturer
Continental AG.
Specially designed for manufacturers and drivers of sporty
vehicles, this next generation of sporty vehicle tyres boasts
excellent features such as shorter braking distances, further
enhanced handling characteristics and improved driving safety
on wet roads. Through its long-standing partnership with Continental
AG, Stamford Tyres currently distributes Continental tyres across
the Asia Pacific region, in Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia,
as well as Shandong Province and Shanghai in China.
Said Mr Wee Kok Wah, President of Stamford
Tyres, “We are proud to be the first in Asia Pacific to
launch Continental’s newest addition to their range of
high-tech tyres - the ContiSportContact 3. Going forward, we
are optimistic about our growth prospects and expect the ContiSportContact
3 to boost the continued expansion of our business in distributing

Improved handling characteristics from ribbed tread pattern
and asymmetry
Designed for safety when making sharp manoeuvres, the ContiSportContact
3 features an asymmetrical ribbed tread pattern, which maintains
a grip on the largest possible contact area, thus providing
the outer side of the tyre with a strong grip for fast cornering
and additional steering stability at high speeds.
Increased grip on wet roads
With state-of-the-art silica compound, the ContiSportContact
3 provides improved driving safety, particularly on wet roads.
Braking distances on both wet and dry surfaces for ContiSportContact
3 have been reduced by five and three per cent each, while aquaplaning
protection has been improved by six per cent. In addition, rolling
resistance and tyre wear on the new ContiSportContact 3 have
each been reduced by five per cent.
Specific tread patterns for rear wheel drive sports cars and
customized vehicles
Continental’s tyre developers have designed a special
tread pattern, which features a double rib in the tread centre
with a Y-shaped groove separating the two ribs, specifically
for high-powered rear wheel drive sports cars. The design further
enhances driving stability during high-speed cornering and on
the straight. A further tread pattern is available for extremely
powerful customized vehicles. To provide these high-performance
vehicles with maximum grip, this tread pattern features larger
tread lugs and even more tread rubber.
As further endorsement, the ContiSportContact
3 has received approval from global auto giants Audi and Renault
for use as Original Equipment.
